5 Winter Family Activities
I was born and raised in the midwest, where I’m raising my family. There are SO many things I love about living here. But the winters are not on that list.
Sure, I love the possibility of a white Christmas, and snow can be gorgeous. But being outside in chilly weather isn’t my idea of fun. But there comes a point every winter (or late fall) where it seems like it’s been 500 days stuck inside, and every family member needs to get out of the house. So if you are like me and will get to that point too, here’s a list of my family’s favorite get-out-of-the-house winter activities.
1. Ice Skating.
Whether you are a hockey family or not, this is a fun activity that every family member can enjoy. Even my one-year-old can join in on the fun using a walker skate trainer. If you live in a place that experiences all four seasons or a mostly sunny climate, chances are you have at least an indoor skating rink available nearby. Plus, it’s a great way to burn off energy, exercise, and spend quality family time (that doesn’t involve watching sports or traveling to and from games or practices!).
3. Fly a kite.
This isn’t just a spring activity!
4. Sidewalk Chalk.
Gloomy winter days can get anyone down, but adding color will brighten your and your neighbors’ day! This is simple, easy, and depending on the weather, you can spend as much time or as little as you want while still being close to your warm house.
5. Winter Scavenger Hunt Hike.
Have your kids list everything they want to see on their hike, like ice icicles, snow, birds, and animal prints. Grab their list, bundle up, and head out for an adventure!
What are some of your favorite get-out-of-the-house-before-someone-loses-their-mind activities? We’d love to hear!
